If you’ve ever tried to create pages or posts using the HTML Editor that comes built into WordPress, you know what a pain it can be to get things looking the way you want them to. A large part of this problem is automatic behavior that WordPress engages in when parsing posts and pages.
Simply click a checkbox, and you can do the following on a per-post basis:
- Disable wptexturize (this filter creates smart quotes and other typographic characters).
- Disable automatic paragraph and line break creation.
- Disable image smilies.
- Disable convert_chars (this filter converts ampersands to HTML entities and “fixes” some Unicode characters).
It’s a HUGE relief to be able to do these things if you’ve ever struggled with getting pages to lay out correctly in WordPress using the HTML editor.
I wouldn’t want to do without it.
